We live in a challenging world (for a lot of reasons); let’s, for a moment, focus on the health challenges we face everyday. In general, we are constantly surrounded by signals telling us how to best live our lives. We see a magazine with the sexy woman on the cover wearing hardly any clothing – and instructions lie within to follow her workout plan to get that bod. We go to work and are surrounded by potluck choices, unhealthy snacks & candies brought in by other coworkers, and several vending machine and other eating-out choices. We compare ourselves to others – we’re fatter or thinner, have better or worse hair, have a better or worse relationship at home, etc. But even with ALL of these surroundings, we are still responsible for OUR lives and have the chance to make the CHOICE to live it well. What does that mean to each one of us? The great and beautiful thing is that that will vary from one individual to the next. We don’t all have to LOVE Turbokick 🙂 or eat clean all the time. But we should all have activities that we DO love, and find a balance in our nutrition that works for us, makes us feel good, and keeps us on the path of health that we so desire.
How do we find these balances? That is a different process for everyone. But the key is to START. You simply can’t discover your “soul mate workout” or best eating practices when you don’t experiment or try new things.
I have tried so many varied modes of exercise. I have instructed every class from high intensity kickboxing to basic stretching. I have – in my personal (not professional) time – ran, lifted weights, done yoga, Pilates, plyometrics, etc. The same goes for food; I have gone from the low-fat-only way of eating when I was younger to trying to focus on choosing healthier, whole foods and embrace their different nutritional components.
I am certainly NOT perfect and I am very aware there are many improvements that I can make in my life to become healthier. This is actually something that excites me and keeps me learning in so many different avenues. How boring would life be if we had it all figured out? 🙂
I want you to take a couple things from this blog today:
1) Finding a balance isn’t easy, but it IS doable, and if you commit to trying new things and talking about them with others, you will figure it out.
2) It is your life (I repeat, YOUR LIFE) and no one else will truly be affected by the choices you make other than yourself. How do you want to live? Make those choices to make tomorrow better for you (and also those you love). Being healthy is always a happier choice. How to get there is the challenging part. But it’s not impossible – in fact, it is VERY possible and the difference it will make in your life is incredible.
I am always thinking…surprise, surprise! And something that has been on my mind a lot recently is how to help any and everyone I come in contact with become healthier – if they want my help with that of course 🙂 Hence the reason for me starting to post things like the #moveoftheday on my Facebook page (which I will soon be adding to this website as well). I want you to know I’m here to help you, if you so want it. It’s my job because I’ve made it so. Reach out to me – I’m here and genuinely want to help you!!
Always your fan,
